Kenyon tops Heidelberg Men's Soccer, 1-0

Tiffin, OH – As the Heidelberg University men’s soccer team took the field this evening against the Kenyon College Lords it would be “a game of good chances with no finishes” as 24 year head coach Brian Haley said. The Berg fell to Kenyon 1-0 at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex.

Freshman goalkeeper Matthew Stevens (South Lyon (Mich.)/South Lyon) tallied six saves to bring his season total to 12.

Sophomore Nico Samaniego (Huron) led the Student Princes offensively with three shots, one of which was on target.

Senior Cole Tonti (Columbus/St. Francis de Sales), sophomore Tyler Eoff (Oak Harbor), freshman Ryan Homoki (Grafton/Midview) and junior Erik Furst (Columbus/Upper Arlington) all recorded one shot for the Berg.

“We are a young team and we are still trying to find our feet,” said Haley.

Kenyon took their 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute when J.J. Jemison served up an assist to Jeremiah Barnes in front of the Heidelberg net.

“We are a team that will play hard for 90 minutes regardless of if the score is for or against us, because that is the Heidelberg way,” said Haley.

The Heidelberg men will compete next when they travel to the College of Wooster on September 8th. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00pm.
