TIFFIN – After their first OAC loss on Saturday, the Heidelberg University men’s soccer team looked to rebound at home against Baldwin Wallace. Unfortunately, rebounds proved to be the downfall in a 2-1 loss on Tuesday night.
With a steady rain cascading down on Mayer Field, BW’s Ashkon Bahrami knocked in a loose ball from just outside the penalty area to give the visitors a 2-1 lead with less than five minutes to play.
All three of the evening’s goals came off of rebounds.
Baldwin Wallace (5-7-3, 3-1 OAC) opened up the scoring with a goal in the 19th minute. Andrew Preis sent a shot toward HU goalkeeper Matthew Stevens. Stevens dove and put a right hand on the ball, but Michael Brennan knocked in the rebound for his sixth goal of the year.
In the 28th minute, Heidelberg (8-4, 2-2 OAC) found an equalizer. Andres Isea’s shot from 25 yards off was pushed into the crossbar by Yellow Jackets goalkeeper Tyler Beaton. Sophomore Chris Koczak calmly collected the carom and found the back of the net. Koczak leads the team with six goals.
The rain began midway through a back-and-forth second half. The Student Princes levied 11 shots in the period, but could not find another goal. After BW went ahead, Heidelberg could not rally to send the game into overtime.
Stevens had three saves in the losing effort. Tyler Eoff had four shots to lead HU.
