TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team will end the 2011 campaign Saturday, Oct. 29 with an Ohio Athletic Conference match against Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio. Kickoff from Charlie Gilhart Field is slated for 5 p.m.
Eight Student Princes will be making their final appearances in the Tri-Color: forwards Matt Condon (Powell/Bishop Watterson) and Mike Harling (Manchester, England/Holy Cross), midfielders Dillard Anu (Westerville/ North), Jeff Gordon (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) and Michael Juart (Hilliard/Darby), defenders Andrew Bertram (Medina/Cloverleaf) and Joe Trejo (Tuscon, Az./Sabino), and goalkeeper Luke Terndrup Columbus/Bishop Ready) have helped Heidelberg to a 34-33-10 overall record entering their final game.
The Berg travels to Wilmington with a 3-10-4 overall and 1-6-1 OAC record following a 2-0 loss to No. 14 Ohio Northern University on Tuesday. Freshman midfielder Hamid Sheriff (Centennial) has paced the offense this season with five points on two goals and one assist. Freshman midfielder Nicholas Samaniego (Huron) and Juart have three points on one goal and one assist each.
In goal, junior two-time All-OAC keeper Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas/Keller), 3-8-4 overall with three shutouts, is saving 78.9 percent of the shots he faces and has made 75 saves while allowing only 20 goals in 1,445 minutes for a 1.25 goals against average.
Wilmington enters its final regular season match sporting a 10-6-1 overall and 4-4-0 OAC record following a 3-0 loss to Otterbein on Tuesday. The Quakers are guided by Erik Hammar with 17 points on eight goals and one assist, and Henrik Hornnaess with 11 points on three goals and five assists. Antonio Trujillo, 9-6-1 with two shutouts, has logged 1,287 minutes in goal this season, where he is saving 71.8 percent of the shots he faces and has made 56 saves while allowing 22 goals.
Despite the loss of eight seniors following Saturday’s match, 23rd-year head coach Brian Haley will look forward to the return of 14 freshmen and sophomores for 2012.
