Heidelberg Men's Soccer Loses to Mount Union in Alliance

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team fell to the University of Mount Union this evening, 1-0, in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance, Ohio.

The Berg falls to 2-8-4 overall and 0-4-1 in the OAC. The win moves the Purple Raiders to 7-5-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the OAC.

Kevin Cindric gave Mount Union what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the 24th minute with an unassisted goal.

The teams battled to a deadlock throughout the remainder of the game.

Senior first-team All-OAC forward Mike Harling (Manchester, England/Holy Cross) paced the Student Prince offensive attack with five of the team’s 13 shots, including one on goal.

In goal, junior two-time All-OAC keeper Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas/Keller) made nine saves while logging all 90 minutes in the net.

Jon Critell made three saves in 90 minutes for Mount Union.

The Purple Raiders outshot the Berg, 20-13, and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Berg returns to the pitch Wednesday, Oct. 19 when it hosts John Carroll University in an OAC match at 7 p.m.
