'Berg Men's & Women's Soccer Teams Host Otterbein in Soccer Doubleheader Wednesday

TIFFIN, Ohio—Both the Heidelberg University men’s and women’s soccer teams will host Otterbein University on Wednesday, Oct. 5 in Ohio Athletic Conference matches in Tiffin, Ohio. Kickoff for the men’s contest is slated for 4 p.m. at Hidden Valley and the women play at 7 p.m. at Mayer Field. The men’s team, 2-4-4 overall and 0-0-1 in the OAC, is coming off a 0-0 tie at Capital University last Saturday. Junior two-time All-OAC goalkeeper Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas/Keller) faced 27 Crusader shots, including 18 in the second half, and made a career-high 12 saves. The Student Princes are led by freshman midfielder Hamid Sheriff (Centennial), whose team-best five points have come on two goals and one assist. Smith has made 45 saves and allows just 1.45 goals per 90 minutes.

Otterbein’s men’s team, 2-5-2 overall and 0-1-0 in the OAC, is coming off a 3-0 shutout by John Carroll. Evan Fallon leads the team with four goals and 10 points, while Dustin Kiaski has a team-high four assists. In goal, Kyle Ripma has made 52 saves and allows 1.38 goals per game.

The Berg women are 3-6-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the OAC following a hard-fought, 4-3 loss at Capital last Saturday. Senior midfielder Kristen Schneider (Evendale/Mount Notre Dame) and sophomore midfielder Aleseya Evans (Troy) scored goals. Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Hogan (Cincinnati/Mariemont) leads the team with nine points on a team-best four goals and one assist. In goal, junior Molly Schriber (Sidney) has made 45 saves and allows 2.09 goals per game.

The Cardinal women, 4-4-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the OAC, have won two straight contests, including a 2-0 win over John Carroll last Saturday. Otterbein is led by Morgan Hendrickson with two goals and one assist. Sarah Uhlenbrock and Melissa Zang have split time in goal this season, each notching 12 saves.

Following Wednesday’s doubleheader, the Berg men’s and women’s teams will host OAC foe Muskingum University on Saturday, Oct. 8.
