TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team will play its second contest in the midst of a three-game home stand Saturday, Sept. 24 when it hosts Case Western Reserve University at Hidden Valley at 2 p.m. Today’s match will be the second of four played at Hidden Valley this season.
The Student Prince offense features a well-rounded attack, with five different student-athletes scoring goals thus far this season, led by freshman midfielder Hamid Sheriff (Centennial), who has tallied a team-high three points on one goal and one assist. In goal, junior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference goalkeeper Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas/Keller) has made 26 saves while allowing just nine goals for a 1.18 goals against average.
The Student Princes last played Wednesday night (Sept. 21), when it fell to Oberlin College, 3-0, at Mayer Field.
The Spartans, ranked sixth in the Great Lakes Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, enter the match 6-1 overall. Case scores nearly 3.0 goals per game and is led by Vinny Bell, who has team-highs of nine goals, three assists and 21 points. Ben Yabrow handles the majority of the keeper duties, tallying 21 saves and two shutouts in 566 minutes of action.
In addition, seven student-athletes from the state of Texas will be on the field or sidelines during today’s game. CWRU has four players from Texas, while Heidelberg junior defender Justin James (Grapevine, Texas/Grapevine), junior midfielder Trevor Dawson (Keller, Texas/Keller) and Smith each hail from the Lone Star State.

Following Saturday’s match against Case, the Berg will host Denison University on Sept. 28 at Mayer Field at 7 p.m. in the last non-conference matchup of the 2011 season before entering Ohio Athletic Conference play.
