TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team lost to Oberlin College tonight, 3-0, in a non-conference match at Mayer Field in Tiffin, Ohio. Despite the loss, senior midfielder Michael Juart (Hilliard/Darby) paced a strong offensive effort, accounting for a total of three of the team’s eight shots.
The win improves the Yeoman to 3-5-0, while the loss drops the Berg to 2-3-2.
The Student Princes held a slight edge offensively in the first half, outshooting Oberlin, 6-5, but could not find the right look at an open shot, as both teams entered halftime deadlocked at 0-0.
Kiefer Forsch broke the tie in the 62nd minute when he scored off a cross from the left side from Oliver Miller-Farrell. Oberlin was the beneficiary of a Heidelberg own goal in the 64th minute and took a 2-0 lead.
A Heidelberg foul inside the box during the 77th minute set up a penalty kick. Shahab Raza’s try was saved by two-time All-OAC goalkeeper Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas/Keller), but Raza capitalized on his own rebound, giving the Yeomen a 3-0 lead.
Smith logged all 90 minutes in the net, making three saves.
The Student Princes return to action Saturday, Sept. 24 when they host Case Western Reserve University at Hidden Valley at 2 p.m. Live stats will be available for that match with the following URL link: http://www.heidelberg.edu/statcrew/msoc/xlive.htm.
