TIFFIN, Ohio—After playing its last four matches away from home, the Heidelberg University men’s soccer team returns to Tiffin to host non-conference foe Oberlin College in a Wednesday evening game at Mayer Field at 7 p.m.
The Student Princes last played in the Kenyon College Tournament, where it came away with a 1-0-1 record. The Berg defeated Kenyon, 2-1, and tied The College of Wooster, 1-1. Freshman midfielder Nicholas Samaniego (Huron) and senior midfielder Michael Juart (Hilliard/Darby) each scored goals for Heidelberg.
Junior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference goalkeeper Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas/Keller) will handle the keeper duties. Smith has played every minute (595) in goal for the Student Princes this season, making 23 saves while allowing opponents just 0.91 goals per contest.
Oberlin enters the match with a 2-5 record. Oliver Miller-Farrell leads the Yeomen with five points on two goals and an assist. In goal, Brant Rentel has made five starts, logged 450 minutes in the net and has made 29 saves. Rentel allows 2.20 goals per match.
Following Wednesday’s midweek match, Heidelberg will host Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Hidden Valley at 2 p.m.
