'Berg Earns Runner-Up Honors in OAC Tournament

Tiffin, Ohio – November 6, 2010 – The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team, under the guidance of 22nd-year head coach Brian Haley, earns runner-up honors in the 2010 OAC Tournament as it dropped to Ohio Northern University 3-2 in double overtime.

The Berg finishes the 2010 season at 14-4-2, while the Polar Bears improve to 17-4-1 and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

ONU got on the board first when Cameron Johnson scored off a deflection in the 12th minute of play. Chaz McCaullah was credited with the assist.

In the 36th minute, Heidelberg sophomore Joel Oldham (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) placed a well-executed pass to senior Killian Riley (Zanesville, Ohio / Zanesville) who would make a nice header in the near post to tie it 1-1.

In the second half, Riley scored his second goal of the game in the 50th minute mark to give Heidelberg the late lead. This time he received a deflection off of a great tackle by senior Gavin McCarthy (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby). This marked Riley's third goal of the season.

Less than six minutes remaining in regulation, ONU’s Greg Stawicki managed to sneak the ball past Heidelberg’s goalie for the equalizer forcing overtime.

Junior Christian Huelsman scored the game winner for the Polar Bears in the second overtime after he received a cross from Brendan Crowley.

Heidelberg outshot ONU 15-14. Riley, senior Cory Buhrman (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick), and junior Michael Juart (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) had a team-leading two shots on goal.

Goalie Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) accumulated five saves on the night.
