Tiffin, Ohio – October 16, 2010- The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team, recently ranked No. 9 in the Great Lakes Region in the latest the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, stays undefeated in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 3-0 win over the University of Mount Union.
The Berg improves to 10-3-1 overall, 4-0-1 in the OAC, while the Purple Raiders drop to 8-5-1, 3-2 in conference play.
Heidelberg earned its first point of the game when sophomore Just James (Grapevine, Texas / Grapevine) found sophomore Grant Beck (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) for the score. It marks Beck’s sixth goal of the season.
The Berg added insurance with two goals in the second half from senior Cory Buhrman (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) (74th min.) who placed a soft touch over Mount Union’s goalie and freshman Christian Walter (Bay Village, Ohio / Bay Village) (89th min.) who received a cross from a corner kick from junior Jeff Gordon (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Northview).
For the game, Heidelberg held an 18-10 shot advantage over Mount Union.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) gathered in five saves on the day.
The Berg is back in action on Tues. October 19, when it travels to John Carroll University at 7:00 p.m.
