'Berg Drops Tough Outing to Case Western Reserve

Tiffin, Ohio – September 26, 2009 – The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team lost to Case Western Reserve University with a score of 1-0. The loss marks Heidelberg’s first at home and goes to 5-3 overall, while Case Western improves to 5-3-1.

The only goal in the game occurred in the 77th minute when Case Western’s Brian Evans shot from 25 yards out and as Heidelberg’s Greg Acuna (Findlay, Ohio / Findlay) blocked it with a header, the ball landed in the back of the net resulting in an own goal giving Case Western the eventual game winning score.                                                                                                                   

Heidelberg’s Cory Buhrman (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) led the team with three shots and two shots on goal. Gavin McCarthy (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) also recorded three shots with one shot on goal, while Jakob Reinbolt (Whitehouse, Ohio / Anthony Wayne) had a shot on goal on the night.

The Berg’s Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) had seven saves for the game, which brings his total to 32 for the year.

Heidelberg looks to rebound as they host Siena Heights University, Wednesday September 30, at 7:00 p.m.
