GAMBIER, Ohio - The Student Princes traveled to Kenyon College to battle the Lords in their final non-conference contest. Juniors Tyler Eoff and Nico Samaneigo along with sophomore Ryan Homoki tallied the Berg’s three goals against the Lords to sending them to a 3-2 victory.
Down 1-0 in the 29th minute, Homoki found the back of the net for the Berg’s first goal. The match would stay at a 1-1 tie heading into half.
In the 59th minute, Eoff found his first goal of the 2013 season. Shortly after, Samaneigo found the inaugural goal of his junior campaign.
The Berg defense and junior keeper Matthew Stevens allowed the second Kenyon goal of the evening in the 61st minute but the Lords would not find an equalizer for the remainder of the match.
Stevens finished the evening with four saves, which moves his season total to 35. He owns a save percentage of .745.
As a unit, the Student Princes landed seven shots on goal against the Lords. Homoki’s goal marks the third of his sophomore campaign, which puts him one behind leading scorer, Hamid Shariff.
With the win in Gambier, the Berg wraps up non-conference play with a 6-2-0 record heading into comference play.
The Berg men will host the Pioneers of Marietta College to open Ohio Athletic Conference competition on Saturday, October 12. Kickoff from the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex in Tiffin, Ohio is slated for 3:30 p.m.
The men’s game will be the second half of a women’s-men’s double header against the Pioneers.
