'Berg Finishes Third at OAC Spring Invite

West Lafayette, Ohio - April 18, 2010 - The Heidelberg University men’s golf team finished third this past weekend at the Ohio Athletic Conference Spring Invitational hosted by River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ohio. John Carroll University was triumphant with a team score of 306 followed by Baldwin-Wallace College with a 316.

Four top twenty placers propelled the 'Berg men’s team to a 318 total score for the two-day, 54 hole event.

Top scorer for Heidelberg was decorated team captain Zack Koinis (Vermilion, Ohio / Vermilion) who finished with a three round 229 (79, 78, 72) shooting +13 for the tournament and landing him in a tie for sixth place. A meager one stroke behind Koinis’s stellar performance was Zak Markley (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville South) who turned in a 230 (81, 75, 74) earning him a two-way tie for ninth.

Closely behind in was David Lilly (Greencastle, Ind. / Greencastle) whose performance earned the junior a 231 (79, 78, 74), a tie for eleventh. Senior Kevin Lenhart (Arlington, Ohio / Arlington) finished tied for 17th but was most consistent golfer for the Berg shooting 79, 77, and 77 resulting in a three round total of 233.

Corey Pierson (Troy, Ohio / Troy), after struggling on Friday with an opening round 91, rallied to shoot a combined 255 with 83, 81 in the final two rounds.
