‘Berg Cross Country Teams to Compete at NCAA Great Lakes Regional

TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to compete at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championship on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Oberlin College’s Woodchip Trail. The women’s six-kilometer race begins at 11 a.m. and the men’s eight-kilometer race starts at noon.

Last season, the men placed eighth among 33 teams at the regional meet, while the women came in 24th of 34.

Both teams last competed on Oct. 29 at the 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships where the men posted a fourth-place finish and the women placed seventh. At that meet, senior John Gogle (Sunbury/Big Walnut) came in 11th overall in a time of 26:12.30 to lead the men’s team, while junior Bobbi Custer (Woodstock/Triad) came in 25th overall in 23:51.10 to lead women.

Saturday’s regional championship will be the second time this season for Heidelberg runners at Oberlin. The Berg ran at the Oberlin College Interregional Rumble on Oct. 15.

The top two teams in each race will receive an automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Championships.
