Heidelberg Takes Third at OAC Championship

Westerville, Ohio – October 30, 2010 – Paced by two all-league honorees, the Heidelberg University men’s cross country team finished in third at the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships. Otterbein University hosted the event at its home course in Westerville, Ohio.

The Berg compiled 90 points to fall just behind champion the University of Mount Union (61) and Ohio Northern University (68). Rounding out the top-five was Baldwin-Wallace College (110) and the host Cardinals (126). Marietta College (157) stood sixth followed by Wilmington College (167), John Carroll University (192), Muskingum University (226) and Capital University (304).

Returning to the list of All-OAC runners for the second year in a row was junior Jordan Karnes (Edgerton, Ohio / Edgerton). Karnes finished in fourth place with a time of 25:52.6. He improved two spots from a season ago and landed yet again on the first team.

Backing Karnes, and garnering All-OAC Second Team honors, was sophomore Gareth Graver (Enon, Ohio / Greenon). Graver picked up his first all-league honors of his career after crossing the finish line in 12th place. He clocked a time of 26:26.

Also finishing in the top-25 was freshman Logan Leis (Zanesfield, Ohio / Benjamin Logan) and junior John Gogle (Sunbury, Ohio / Big Walnut). Leis finished in a time of 26:43.2 to stand 22nd, while Gogle followed in 23rd (26:46.9).

Rounding out the scorers was sophomore Dustin Kuess (Coldwater, Ohio / Coldwater) who finished in 29th place with a time of 26:59.0.

Next up for the Berg is the Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 13 at Hope College in Hope, Mich. The Berg will look to make its eighth trip to the NCAA Championships, including its fifth straight.
