'Berg Races at All-Ohio; Men Finish in Top-10

Cedarville, Ohio – October 1, 2010 – The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s cross country teams participated in the All-Ohio Championships today. The event was hosted by Cedarville University on the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.

Men finished 10 out of 20, while the women’s placed 15 out of 19 schools.

Junior John Gogle (Sunbury, Ohio / Big Walnut) led the Berg with a 24th place finish in the time of 26:25.9, which was 25 seconds faster than his finish a week ago at the Otterbein Invite.

 Pacing behind Gogle was classmate Jordan Karnes (Edgerton, Ohio / Edgerton) who clocked in at 27:11.1 for 56th place. Following close behind was sophomore Gareth Graver (Enon, Ohio / Greenon) (27:16.4) (60th).

Rounding out the top five finishers for the Berg were freshman Logan Leis (Zanesfield, Ohio / Benjamin Logan) (27:27.6) (65th) and sophomore Dustin Kuess (Coldwater, Ohio / Coldwater) (27:42.9) (70th).

On the women’s side, freshman Sophie Goobic (Canton, N.Y. / Hugh C. Williams) led with a time of 19:56.1 for 58th place.

Sophomore Bobbi Custer (Woodstock, Ohio / Triad) followed with a 66th finish with a time of 20:05.1, while freshman Jocelyn Staugler (Coldwater, Ohio / Coldwater) finished in 20:22.0 for 76th.

Also placing for the Berg were senior Michelle Fitch (Kinsman, Ohio / Badger) (21:27.8) (98th) and sophomore Macy McFarland (Huron, Ohio / Huron) (21:33.6) (101st).

Next up for the Berg is the Inter-Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin College on Saturday October 16, starting at 11:00 a.m.
