Impressive Outing at Otterbein Invitational

Westerville, Ohio – September 25, 2010 – The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Otterbein University Invitational today, hosted by Otterbein University. The men finished sixth out of 17 schools, while the women placed 11th out of 18 teams.

For the men, junior Jordan Karnes (Edgerton, Ohio / Edgerton) excelled in the field of 190 with a 13th place finish in the time of 26:21.3. Following Karnes was Gareth Graver (Enon, Ohio / Enon) who crossed the finish line at 26:38.7, good for 23rd place. Running close behind was junior John Gogle (Sunbury, Ohio / Big Walnut) who finished in the time of 26:49.9 for 28th place.

Freshman Logan Leis (Zanesfield, Ohio / Benjamin Logan) finished 48th with a time of 27:38.5, while sophomore Kevin Neel (Wellington, Ohio / New London) crossed the finish line in the time of 27:53.5 (58th).

Rounding out the top seven were sophomore Dustin Kuess (Coldwater, Ohio / Coldwater) (28:24.6) (73rd) and junior Jacob Hoffman (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) (28:24.9) (74th).

On the women’ side freshman Sophie Goobic (Canton, N.Y. / Hugh C. Williams) continues to impress with a 21st finish out of 221 participants. Goobic’s time of 19:25.3 is 10 seconds faster than her mark two weeks ago at the Mel Brodt Invite.

Finishing 49th was sophomore Bobbi Custer (Woodstock, Ohio / Triad) with a time of 20:19.3. Following Custer was freshman Jocelyn Staugler (Coldwater, Ohio / Coldwater) (20:56.5) (82nd).

Senior Michelle Fitch (Kinsman, Ohio / Badger) timed in at 20:59.0 (86th), while sophomore Macy McFarland (Huron, Ohio / Huron) finished in 21:35.1 (121st).

Finishing in the top seven for the Berg were junior Jessica Jones (Wauseon, Ohio / Wauseon) (22.39.4) (158th) and freshman Jennifer Brown (Euclid, Ohio / Euclid) (23.02.8) (169th).

Heidelberg next competes in the All-Ohio Championships, October 1 at 2:00 p.m. in Cedarville, Ohio.
