Tiffin, Ohio – September 4, 2010 – The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s cross country teams started the year with the Heidelberg Invitational at Hedges-Boyer Park. Joining the Berg were Tiffin University, Lake Erie College, and Ohio Dominican University. The women ran a two mile cours and the men ran a four mile loop.
Leading the women in the top 20 was freshman Sophie Goobic (Canton, N.Y. / Hugh Hugh C. Williams). In her first collegiate race she finished in eighth with a time of 12:31. Sophomore Bobbi Custer (Woodstock, Ohio / Triad) followed close behind in the 10th spot in12:45.
Rounding out the top finishes for the women’s side was senior Michelle Fitch (Kinsman, Ohio / Badger) in 17th (13:19) and freshman Jocelyn Staugler (Coldwater, Ohio / Coldwater) in 19th (13:32).
The men’s team finished strong as well, placing five runners in the top 20. Leading the way was junior Jordan Karnes (Edgerton, Ohio / Edgerton) with a second place finish with a time of 20:45.
Also posting top finishes was juniorJohn Gogle (Sunbury, Ohio / Big Walnut) in 13th (21:24) and sophomore Gareth Graver (Enon, Ohio / Greenon) in 14th (21:27).
Rounding out the top placers for the Berg was sophomore Dustin Kuess (Coldwater, Ohio / Coldwater) in 16th (21:40) and freshmanLogan Leis (Zanesfield, Ohio / Benjamin Logan) in 18th (21:51).
Joining in on the race for support were Heidelberg alums Jackie Panek-Brown, Jamie Kuess and Nick Reinhart.
