Tiffin, Ohio - November 18, 2009 - The Heidelberg University men’s cross country team earned an automatic bid to the championship after finishing second at Regional.
Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in the championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 16 teams. Sixteen additional teams were selected at-large. Fifty-six individuals, the first seven athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, were selected to participate in each championship.
Baldwin-Wallace College will host the championships, November 21, at Highland Park Golf Course in Highland Hills, Ohio. The men’s race will begin at 11 a.m. eastern time.
Heidelberg, under the guidance of second-year head coach Keith Roberts Jr. is making its seventh appearance overall, fourth-straight, at the NCAA Championship (1997, 1998, 1999, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009).
Leading the way heading into the national race is all-region performers juniors Devin Butcher (Bowling Green, Ohio / Bowling Green) and Scott Lasch (Huron, Ohio / Huron), Jacob Lemon (Oak Harbor, Oh. / Oak Harbor), and Jordan Karnes (Edgerton, Oh. / Edgerton).
