Blue Streaks Nip Heidelberg in Overtime

Box Score | Season Stats

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Heidelberg University forward Nate Davis (Dayton/Stivers) enjoyed a game for the ages.

The senior surpassed the 1,000 point barrier with a 25 point effort at John Carroll on Wednesday night.  He added a career-high 23 rebounds.

But unfortunately, his 20-20 effort came in a 71-68 overtime loss at the DeCarlo Center.

The Student Princes took a quick lead in the first half, highlighted by a jumper with 7:00 remaining that pushed Davis over 1,000 points.  He became the 29th player in program history to surpass the mark.

Heidelberg (9-11, 4-9 OAC) held a 37-26 lead at halftime, but John Carroll (10-9, 7-6 OAC) slowly chipped away during the second half.

The Blue Streaks regained the lead on a David Hendrickson layup with 2:27 left in the game.

Trailing by two in the closing seconds, Heidelberg's Dane Givner (Pittsburgh, PA/Harvest Prep) nailed a jumper to send the game into overtime.

In overtime, Davis split a pair of free throws to give Heidelberg a 68-64 lead with 2:29 left, but again, the hosts would chip away.

After a missed 3-pointer by Heidelberg, John Carroll converted two consecutive three-point plays to regain the lead.  A last-second 3-pointer by Keith Mackie (Detroit, MI/Fr. Gabriel Richard) was off the mark.

Givner finished with nine points and seven boards.

The previous career-high in rebounds for Davis was 17, set against Capital earlier this season.  The double-double was the 19th of Davis' career.

John Carroll was paced by double-doubles from Kyle Hubbard (22 points, 15 rebounds) and Kenny Janz (14 points, 14 rebounds).

The Student Princes will look to get back on the winning track on Saturday at Marietta.  The men's game will follow the women's game, which starts at 1 p.m.
