Track & Field Gears Up for OAC North Split Meet

TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s track & field teams will get their first taste of Ohio Athletic Conference competition Friday, Jan. 27 when they competed at the OAC North Split Meet hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College at the Harrison Dillard Track in Berea, Ohio. The five-team meet includes the five northern OAC schools, B-W, Heidelberg, John Carroll University, the University of Mount Union and Ohio Northern University.

Both teams competed just one week ago at the Northwest Ohio Invitational in Findlay. Junior Josh Lynch (Dayton/Meadowdale) won both the high jump (6-6.00) and triple jump (44-9.00) events. Senior Lilly Hansbegrer (Norwalk/Western Reserve) and junior Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway) also won events in the 500-meter dash (1:25.38) and long jump (16-10.00), respectively.

Seniors Joe Yoder (West Liberty-West Liberty-Salem) and John Gogle (Sunbury/Big Walnut), juniors Shondell Thomas (Westerville/South) and Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek), sophomore Cartel Brooks (Kokomo, Ind./Galion) and freshmen Austin Bentz (Tiffin/Columbian) and Caddie Orr (East Liberty/Benjamin Logan) also had notable performances.

Friday’s meet will serve as a bench mark for second-year head coach Brianna (Shook) Hess against half the field that will compete at the 2012 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 24-25.

Following the OAC North Split Meet, Heidelberg will compete at the Joe Banks Invitational hosted by ONU on Feb. 4 in Ada.
