TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University men’s basketball team continues its four-game road swing Wednesday, Jan. 11 when it takes on Otterbein University in an Ohio Athletic Conference game at the Rike Center in Westerville, Ohio. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.

Heidelberg (4-9, 2-4 OAC) is coming off a 99-78 loss at Marietta College (Jan. 7) in which junior second-team All-OAC guard Dane Givner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Harvest Prep) poured in a season-high 21 points and had game-highs of five rebounds and five assists and sophomore forward Victor Fortkamp (St. Henry) and junior honorable mention All-OAC forward Nate Davis (Dayton/Stivers) added 14 points and 10 points, respectively.
Givner will lead the Student Princes into Westerville with a 12.5 points per game scoring average. He is also third on the team with 4.7 rebounds per game and is tied for fifth in the OAC with 3.0 assists per game. Davis scores 10.7 ppg. and is third in the league with 8.8 rpg., fourth with a 57.0 (53-of-93) field goal percentage and leads the conference with 2.3 blocks per game. Fortkamp averages 11.4 ppg. and is fifth in the OAC with a 56.3 (58-of-103) field goal percentage and eighth with a 76.9 (30-of-39) free throw percentage. The Berg is fourth in the OAC in scoring (72.5 ppg.) and second in rebounding margin (plus-4.8 rpg.)—averaging 38.8 rpg.—and shoots 44.4 percent from the field.
Otterbein (5-8, 2-4 OAC) has lost three straight games, including a 67-66 overtime loss to Muskingum University (Jan. 7) in its last outing. Brice Rausch scored a game-high 20 points for the Cardinals and Chris Davis notched a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. This season, Davis is averaging a double-double, leading the league with 10.8 rpg. and tallying 16.2 ppg. Otterbein scores 69.9 ppg., is fourth in the OAC with a plus-2.6 rebounding margin—averaging 36.2 rpg.—and leads the circuit with a 45.5 field goal percentage.
Both Heidelberg and Otterbein are tied for the seventh in the league standings. Losses by Baldwin-Wallace College to the University of Mount Union and Ohio Northern University to Wilmington College tomorrow night will move the Heidelberg-Otterbein winner into a tie for sixth place.
The Student Princes took both meetings with Otterbein a season ago, winning, 65-59, at home on Jan. 12, 2011, and 65-60 in Westerville on Feb. 16, 2011. Heidelberg’s Nate Davis averaged 11.0 ppg., 7.0 rpg. and 3.0 bpg., while Otterbein’s Chris Davis tallied 17.5 ppg., 13.0 rpg. and 3.0 apg. The Berg has won two straight games in the series and is 6-4 in the last 10 meetings, including 3-2 on the road.
Following tomorrow’s game, Heidelberg will continue its four-game road trip at Mount Union on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 3 p.m.
