Austintown, Ohio – February 28, 2011 – The Ohio Athletic Conference office announced the release of the 2011 men’s basketball all-league honors today. Heidelberg University’s sophomore Dane Givner (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Harvest Preparatory) earned a spot on the second team, while classmate sophomore Nate Davis (Dayton, Ohio / Stivers) was a honorable mention recipient. The league head coaches voted on the honorees.
Picking up his second All-OAC honors for his career is Givner. Last year he tabbed a spot on the honorable mention team. In his second season, Givner led the team in scoring, averaging 14.4 points per game. He also led the team and was third in conference with 99 assists (3.67 apg.). On defense he topped the team with 45 steals (1.67), which stood fifth in the OAC. Givner was also second on the team in rebounds with averaging 4.6 an outing. He exploded for a season-best 26 points in the double overtime OAC Tournament quarterfinal round game over Ohio Northern University.
Davis is picking up his first all-league nod. In his sophomore campaign, Davis led the team and the conference with 65 blocks (2.5 per game). He topped the team and was fifth in the league with 7.1 rebounds a game. Davis also added 7.3 points an outing.
Heidelberg, under the guidance of third-year head coach Anthony Gholson, finished the year at 12-15 overall and 9-9 in the OAC. The Berg made its 50th appearance in the OAC Tournament, including its fifth-straight. Heidelberg topped ONU in the quarterfinals, followed by a loss to the no. 1 seed and the eventual tournament champions Marietta College in the semis.
