Energized 'Berg Tops B-W

Tiffin, Ohio – January 26, 2011 – An energized Heidelberg University men’s basketball team with four scorers in double figures was victorious over Ohio Athletic Conference foe Baldwin-Wallace College tonight in Seiberling Gymnasium with a score of 83-62. The Berg improves to 9-9 overall and 7-4 in the OAC, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 7-11 and 3-8 against league foes.

With the Student Princes crowd behind them, Heidelberg came out of the gates as a team on a mission en route to an early 12-2 lead which was topped by senior Kyle Tuley (Berea, Ohio / Berea) with a fast break layup. Sophomore Wes Paramore (Painesville, Ohio / Harvey) earned the assist.

Yellow Jackets tried to keep the game within reach, but Heidelberg finished the half strong with an 8-1 run which ended with Paramore making a layup as time expired. At half, the Berg had a commanding 42-25 lead.

For the duration of the game, Heidelberg never lost the lead on its way to a convincing win.

The Berg outshot B-W, 55% (33-60) to 37.7% (23-61) from the floor.

Offensively, sophomore Dane Givner (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Harvest Preparatory) led four in double figures with 20 points. Following was Tuley with 12 points, while sophomore Nate Davis (Dayton, Ohio / Stivers) and junior Clifton Powell (Detroit, Mich. / Bishop Foley) each scored 10.

Davis led on the glass with 10 boards, while junior Darion Capers (Dayton, Ohio / Trotwood-Madison) and freshman Victor Fortkamp (Saint Henry, Ohio / Saint Henry) each had six rebounds.

Capers and senior Derrick Flynn (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) added six points a piece, while Fortkamp and sophomore Quint Aden Jr. (Canal Winchester, Ohio / Harvest Preparatory) each scored five.

‘Berg looks to make it three-straight wins as it hosts Muskingum University on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The game will be sponsored by the Coaches vs. Cancer event.
