'Berg Wins Third Straight

Tiffin, Ohio – January 12, 2011 – The Heidelberg University men’s basketball team continued its OAC dominance topping Otterbein University 65-59 in Seiberling Gymnasium. The win was the third straight for the Berg who evens its record at 7-7 and improves to 5-2 in the OAC, while the Cardinals fall to 6-8 and 2-5 against league foes.

From the tip, Otterbein took control and the lead. The Cardinals would maintains its lead the whole first half, but Heidelberg came out with a purpose in the second half. In the final 20 minutes the Berg shot an impressive 65.4% (17-of-26) from the floor in its comeback.

Down 32-27 at half, Heidelberg continued to chip at Otterbein's lead and eventually tied it 50-50 at the 8:51 mark when senior Kyle Tuley (Berea, Ohio / Berea) scored on a jumper in the paint. The Berg would capture its first lead of the game when junior Darion Capers (Dayton, Ohio / Trotwood-Madison) scored on a layup with 7:41 left in regulation. Heidelberg would stay out infront for the remainder of the game.

Leading the Berg on offense was sophomore Dane Givner (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Harvest Preparatory) and Capers with 13 points apiece. Sophomore Quintin Aden Jr. (Canal Winchester, Ohio / Harvest Preparatory) added nine points off the bench.

On the glass, sophomore Nate Davis (Dayton, Ohio / Stivers) added eight points and a team high seven boards to go along with a game high four blocks and a late dunk that ignited the crowd.

Otterbein’s OAC Player of the Week Chris Davis led all scorers with 15 points while Zach Bakenhaster and Max Van Meter scored 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Heidelberg looks to make it four straight wins as it hosts the University of Mount Union on Saturday, January 12, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. in Seiberling Gymnasium.
