Tiffin, Ohio - April 22, 2010 - When you are a member of an intercollegiate athletic team at Heidelberg University you are not just an athlete, but you are a student, as well as a member of the campus community and beyond. This holds true with second year head coach Anthony Gholson and the men’s basketball program.
During the winter, the entire basketball team volunteered at 1Matters, a homeless shelter through the city of Toledo that distributes food, clothing and medical services.
Also, last summer, three players and two coaches volunteered at a spina bifida camp, and the children were invited to the games Heidelberg played in Columbus.
Players have collected food for a local church, worked with United Way's 5K run and participated in the American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer fundraiser. Players help coach children involved in Tiffin Community YMCA's youth basketball program and every year, the team helps vendors move their wares into the Y-Wives Extravaganza.
