Davis Eclipses Career Blocked Shots Record in Loss to Capital

Senior Nate Davis (Dayton Stivers) had a career night in a 69-60 loss to the Crusaders of Capital University. Davis eclipsed the 173 career blocked shots mark set back in 2002 by Ryan Niemic with two blocks against Capital. Davis now holds the record with 175 career blocks with 18 games left in the 2012-2013 season.

Davis also recorded a double-double in the loss, collecting 15 points, 17 rebounds, four steals and one assists.

Senior Dane Givner (Pittsburgh, PA./Harvest Prep.) scored in double figures, tallying 11 points against Capital. Givner also led the team in assists with three.

Sophomore Ricky Slaughter (Shaker Heights/Cleveland Heights) dropped 11 points on the Crusaders, while collecting two rebounds and one assist.

The Student Princes trailed by as much as eight in the first half, but managed to trim the Crusader lead to one at the half.

The second half began with an electrifying Davis dunk, that brought the home crowd to their feet and gave Heidelberg a one point lead.

Heidelberg took their largest lead with 14:16 left in the game with a Slaughter layup, but then slowly the Crusaders chipped away at the Heidelberg lead in the second half.

Capital regained the lead with just under nine minutes left in the game and maintained the upper hand until the final buzzer

The Heidelberg men return to the hardwood on Saturday, December 8, when they travel to Alliance, Ohio to battle Ohio Athletic Conference foe the University of Mount Union. Tip off from Alliance is slated for 5:00 p.m.
