TIFFIN, Ohio— After a successful season on the field, postseason accolades continue to roll in for Heidelberg University Football.
On Tuesday, D3football.com released their All-North Region team. Four Student Princes were selected, including two on the first team.
Sophomore running back Cartel Brooks (Kokomo, IN/Galion), a first team selection, won the OAC rushing title. He finished with 1,299 yards and 16 touchdowns. Against Wilmington, Brooks set a Heidelberg record with a 99-yard touchdown rush en route to earning OAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Senior linebacker Craig Sykes (Centerburg), a finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, was also named to the first team. Sykes led the team with 87 tackles. He earned OAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his 17 tackle performance against Baldwin Wallace in Week 10. Sykes was also received Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America first team honors for the second consecutive year.
Left tackle Quentin Rembert (Euclid) earned second team honors. He anchored an offensive line that blocked for 5,178 yards, a school record. The offensive line only allowed six sacks in 233 total dropbacks. Rembert also earned OAC Special Teams Player of the Week after he blocked a potential game-winning field goal against Baldwin Wallace.
Sophomore nose guard Ben Poirier (Canton, MI) was named to the third team after finishing the 2012 season with 56 tackles and 11.5 sacks. Four of the sacks came against Marietta in Week Four. Following that outburst, the OAC named him Defensive Player of the Week.
For all four student-athletes, this is the first All-Region selection of their career.
