Austintown, OH - On Monday, the Ohio Athletic Conference named Heidelberg University defensive end Stephen Fejedelem as the Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in a 45-10 win over Capital University.
Fejedelem, a 2009 graduate of Ravenna High School, recorded eight solo tackles against the Crusaders, including two sacks and four tackles for a loss.
"Steve had a fantastic game," said head coach Mike Hallett. "This award is a testament to his strength and how talented he is."
Heidelberg (5-0, 4-0) has held opponents to 8.6 points per game, which ranks fifth in Division III. Fejedelem, with 25 tackles and 4.5 sacks is a big part of that success.
"Fedge draws a lot of attention which has allowed other guys to make big plays," said Hallett. "When he get an opportunity, he cashes in. Steve does everything well."
Heidelberg will face unbeated Otterbein University on Saturday in the 21st Rhine River Classic. In the latest D3football.com Top-25 poll, the two schools were tied at No. 25.
In addition to being a key on-field battle, Saturday's game is Homecoming, Fellows Day and Hall of Fame Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
