Kater & Preston Earn Top Honors from D3Football.com

Tiffin, Ohio – December 18, 2010 – The senior duo of Nate Kater (Villa Hills, Ky. / Covington Catholic) and Mike Preston (Euclid, Ohio / Euclid) of the Heidelberg University football team landed a spot on the D3Football.com All-American Team. Kater led the way with a spot on the second team, while Preston was named to the third team.

Kater and Preston’s All-American accolades increase the program’s total to 44. In 2010, the duo’s recognition marks the third and fourth All-American honors, respectively. Earlier this week Preston was named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-American Team and the AP Little All-American Third Team. Kater and Preston join defensive lineman, and current student assistant, Matt Grieves as the lone 'Berg D3Football.com All-Americans.

A D3Football.com Preseason All-American, Kater helped to lead the Berg offense to combine to set over 20 individual and or team records on the year. The four-year starter’s first All-American honor comes on the heels of being named to the D3Football.com North Region First Team and the All-OhioCollegeFootball.com Team. He was also tabbed the Ohio Athletic Conference’s Ken Wable Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman, as well as landed a spot on the All-OAC First Team for the second straight year.

Preston has saved his best season for last. His third All-American honor lists him as just one of three student-athletes that have earned three All-American honors on the gridiron at the Berg. Fellow three-time All-Americans include Walter Livingston and Greg Lehrer. The trio stands right behind four-time All-American Bryce Tuohy. Preston was also named to the D3Football.com All-North Region First Team and the All-OhioCollegeFootball.com Team. He was named to the OAC First Team and was named the Ed Sherman Most Outstanding Receiver.
