Tiffin, Ohio – May 25, 2011 – The postseason accolades continue to roll in for senior Andy Lowe (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll) and junior Ricardo Lizcano (Toledo, Ohio / Roy C. Start) of the Heidelberg University baseball team. The duo was named to the D3Baseball.com All-American list. Lowe was named to the first team, while Lizcano was an honorable mention selection.
Overall the Berg has produced 17 All-Americans in the history of the program. Six have been honored by D3Baseball.com and the rest by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
Lowe just completed his fourth season as Heidelberg’s closer. It is the third straight season that Lowe has earned All-American recognition from D3Baseball.com. Yesterday he earned a spot on the ABCA Mideast Region First Team, to go along with a nod on the All-Ohio Athletic Conference First Team. He also was named to the Capital One Academic All-District IV First Team this season as well. Lowe will graduate as the all-time saves leader at the Berg, as well as in NCAA Division III. In his final campaign he registered 14 saves and a 5-1 record on the mound. In 65.0 innings of work he led the team with a 2.08 earned run average and was second with 58 strike outs.
Lizcano is also a repeat D3Baseball.com All-American. The junior right fielder recently completed his second year as a mainstay in the starting line up. His All-American honor joins his listing on the ABCA Mideast Region and OAC First Teams. He led the Berg in a host of statistical categories for the second straight season. Leading the way was his .402 batting average, including a team-best 70 hits and nine home runs. He led the way with 55 runs scored, a .661 slugging percentage and a .522 on base percentage. His 15 stolen bases stood second, while his 34 runs batted in ranked sixth.
Heidelberg, under the guidance of 12th-year head coach Matt Palm, finished the year at 36-13. They were runner-up in the OAC and the Mideast Regional. Its 36 wins ranks fourth all-time for wins in a season.
