Austintown, Ohio - May 19, 2010 –Heidelberg University's 11th-year head baseball coach Matt Palm has been named the 2010 Don Schaly Ohio Athletic Conference Baseball Coach of the Year.
Palm has guided the Berg to five, four straight, Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season Titles (2003, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010) and four, three consecutive, OAC Tournament trophies (2004, 2008, 2009 and 2010). Along the way Heidelberg has made four trips to the Mideast Regional, earning the number one seed on three occasions. Under Palm’s guidance, the Berg has posted a 20-win season every year since 2000, including six 30-win campaigns and a record-setting 41-10 season in 2008.
Heidelberg has made 11 appearances in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament with 10 coming with Palm’s direction, including seven consecutive. Palm boasts an overall record of 340-144-2 for a .702 winning percentage. Prior to Palm’s arrival the program owned just a .387 winning percentage. He became the college’s career win leader in 2002. Overall he has five OAC Coach of the Year honors (2000, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010). He is just the second ’Berg coach to earn coach of the year accolades
