Student-Athlete Advisory Council

The Heidelberg University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is composed of student-athletes representing all campus sports assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations and polices that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses.

Heidelberg SAAC meetings are held bi-weekly or monthly depending upon programming and last up to one hour. All student-athletes are welcomed and encouraged to attend. SAAC meetings involve committees and speakers who concentrate on each of the five pillars of CHAMPS/Life Skills: Academics, Athletics, Career Development, Personal Development and Service.

Presently, there are separate national SAACs for NCAA Divisions I, II and III. NCAA legislation mandates that all member institutions have SAACs on their respective campuses. Further, NCAA legislation requires that all member conferences have SAACs.

Mission Statement

The SAAC committe strives to:

  • Provide an opportunity for student-athletes to effectively communicate their ideas to the athletic department administration involving the welfare of the student-athletes in the program.
  • Promote the sharing and discussing of concepts and issues in athletics.
  • Promote more involvement of student-athletes in campus and community projects.
  • Design and implement programs to encourage academic achievement, health promotion, social responsibility, and general awareness.
