After countless hours of preseason conditioning, agility drills, team meetings and film study, over 160 of Heidelberg University's student-athletes will compete in their first athletic contests of the fall. Women's Soccer - August 31 and September 1
With seventh-year head coach Nick Spell at the helm, the women's soccer team opens up with back-to-back games at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex. On Friday, the opening touch of the game with the Spartans of Case Western Reserve University will be at 5 p.m. Saturday's game against the Wolverines of Grove City College will start at 3 p.m. Weather permitting, both games will be streamed live on the internet.

Volleyball - August 31 and September 1
The Heidelberg volleyball team, ranked 19th in the AVCA Preseason Poll, travels to Ada, Ohio, for the Ohio Northern University Invitational. The team, coached by 13th-year head coach Jason Miller, will play four games in less than 24 hours. Friday, they open up against Thiel College at 3 p.m. and Trine University at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the team faces the College of Wooster at 10 a.m. and Carnegie Mellon at noon.

Football - September 1
Winners of the final four contests in 2011, the football team will look to regain that momentum as they travel to Alma College. Kickoff on Saturday is slated for 1 p.m. Last season, the Scots and Student Princes battled temperatures that approached triple digits on opening day. Sixth-year head

Men's & Women's Cross Country - September 1
The cross country teams, under the guidance of third-year head coach Briana Hess, also travels to Ada for their opening weekend. At the Ohio Northern Opener, the men will start at 10 a.m. and the women will start at 10:45 a.m.

The men's soccer team will open up with two 7 p.m. games at the Oberlin Tournament. With 24th-year head coach Dr. Brian Haley leading the way, the team will face Geneva on Saturday and the hosts, Oberlin, on Sunday.

On the links, the Berg golfers take to Colonial Hills Golf Course on Tuesday as part of the Ohio Northern Invitational. The team is coached by Dan Hartsel, heading into his fourth season.
