Dr. Blake Grangaard was a Lutheran pastor for almost 10 years, but he just couldn't quit going to school and learning. So in his mid-30s, he formalized his scholarly interest and turned to the world of academia. With the permission of his wife and three children, he uprooted the family and headed for grad school, where he earned a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies.
Upon arriving at Heidelberg, in 1996, he broadened his studies to fit the wider curriculum of the Religion Department. He teaches most of the university's religion classes, as well as an Honors seminar on Religion and Literature and an interdisciplinary general education class on Religion and Politics. You can often find him with his nose in a book, reading about an area of religion he formerly knew nothing about … and loving it!
