Karen Murphy is a two-time alumna of Heidelberg, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education in May 2004 and a master’s degree in school counseling in December 2010. Before she began teaching in higher education in August 2011, she taught grades K-12 health and physical education courses in a public school setting. While teaching, Karen attended numerous workshops and seminars for professional development, held annual Hoops for Heart and Jump Rope for Heart events, organized and managed elementary field days in the spring and coached middle school cross country, track and cheerleading. Karen has completed more than 45 hours of graduate studies in Heidelberg's graduate counseling program and more than 700 hours of internship experience as a school counselor.
Karen is a member of the Ohio Counselors Association, American School Counselors Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. As a teacher and counselor, Karen finds great value in developing both physical and mental health and wellness. She hopes to continue to communicate the importance of all dimensions of health and wellness to the students of Heidelberg, so they may adopt healthier lifestyle choices and be inspired to take a more active role in achieving overall health and wellness.
