Before coming to Heidelberg, Dr. Robert Swanson spent 25 years at a liberal arts college in Kentucky, where he taught chemistry and earth science as chair of the Natural Science Division. Promoted to dean of education, he wrote a series of professional education grants for elementary and middle school science teachers throughout the state. He was twice cited with the Excellence in Teaching Award by the college as well as the Distinguished Professor Award by the student senate. In 2001, he received the Distinguished Service Award in Science from the Kentucky Science Teachers Association. He was also active in the college's theater and stage band.
