2013 Reno Prizes Awarded

Senior Amber Welfle and Sophomore Nathan Somers are this year's receipients of the Reno Prizes in Computing at Heidelberg University.

The Reno Prizes are awarded in memory of Dr. Martin Reno. Dr. Reno came to Heidelberg in 1966 as a faculty member in the Physics department. On campus, Dr. Reno wore many hats, including faculty liaison to Athletic department, Chairman of both the Physics and Computer Science departments, and Associate Vice President for Information Resources.

Welfle, a double-major in Business Administration and Information Systems from Norwalk, Ohio, was awarded the Martin A. Reno Senior Scholar Prize.  This prize is given to a senior who has maintained a 3.5 GPA and who, in the judgment of the departmental faculty, demonstrates strong work ethic and the qualities of character, leadership, and integrity.

Somers, an information systems major from Tiffin, Ohio, received the Martin A. Reno Emerging Scholar Prize.  This prize is awarded to a sophomore who, in the judgment of the departmental faculty, demonstrates strong personal character and outstanding ability in the field.

Dr. Reno's wife Carol was on hand to congratulate the pair for their achievements at the 2013 Student Awards Celebration on Friday, April 26, 2013.
