Dr. Susan Carty earned her B.S. and M.S. from State University of New York at Stony Brook, her M.S. from University of Oklahoma and her Ph.D. at Texas A & M University. She has been at Heidelberg since 1988 and teaches courses in General Botany, Ethnobotany, Field Biology and Microbiology. Her primary research interests lie in the study of algae
Dr. Carty works hard to train young scientists to be professional scientists by challenging them to think as scientists and to write professionally. She encourages research and its dissemination.
