Why did you choose Heidelberg?
“I wasn’t looking at Heidelberg in the beginning. I wanted a college that was affordable and far away from home. I originally dismissed Heidelberg because I thought it would be too expensive, but my family convinced me to look into it. I came for music preview day and I was sold instantly.”
Who is your mentor on campus?
“Carol Dusdieker. She is my vocal coach, I have her in class, and she directed the musical I performed in. She’s become somewhat of a mother to me here and I don’t know what I would do without her. Music brings out emotions in you and she’s seen all of mine. Being in the music program is a 24/7 thing and she is completely involved.”
What has been your favorite Berg experience?
“I was homecoming queen this past fall. It was a surprise and such an honor. I’m a Delt and they all really supported me. It completely brought us together that week. Also, I basically live in Brennemann all the time, but for that week I got to spend time with the other contestants. It was a great experience.”
What was your biggest surprise about Heidelberg?
“The professors are so welcoming and warm. Everything that I thought would help my future, I did. The faculty have always supported me, telling me to go for it. I’ve been given so many opportunities here.”
What is your advice to underclassmen?
“Stick with it. This major is hard. You will know quickly if music is for you or not, and if you have that passion don’t get discouraged.”
What are your post-graduation plans?
“I’m currently student-teaching and right now I’m waiting to hear back from where I’ve applied. My goal is to teach elementary music, but be involved at the high school level in theatre and show choir.”
