Welcome Week 2013

Aug 30, 2013

357 freshmen moved into their rooms last weekend. Over the past week they have been thrown into Heidelberg campus life with events, fun, and support. With classrooms to be found, homework assignments starting, and new people to meet, it’s enough to overwhelm anyone. Welcome Week events are designed to help new students get their bearings, and have some fun.

New students were able to start building friendships with their classmates at events like the Amazing Race challenge, a concert with The Hunts, Casino Night, T-Bridge, and a movie on the lawn. Freshman learned how they could get involved on campus at the Involvement Fair, Rec Fest at Saurwein, the Media Communication Center open house, and the community service event BergServe.

The office of student engagement brought student success speaker Arel Moodie to campus as the convocation speaker. He delivered a message on the power of choice that drew a standing ovation from the crowd. Sharing his experiences and insights was a great start to the academic year.

Athletic action begins today as Heidelberg’s football scrimmages Bluffton, women’s soccer plays Hanover at home, and Volleyball is on the road at an invitational. Students can attend a tailgate party and cookout at Mayer field.

A great cap to the week will be the Freshman Foundations camping retreat this weekend. Students can take advantage of leadership and success workshops while swimming, boating, and hiking.

That’s a lot to do in one week, but it’s only one week down, out of four years of college. Choose to be great, class of 2017.
